GM India adds 1,000 New Workers to Payroll

Financial World News Update by Equities Magazine

GM India will hire as many as 1,000 people in their division by the close of the year according to an announcement Tuesday. Increased domestic demand in India has stipulated the need for more output and the fortification of engineering design resources for the nation.

GM’s first step in rectifying that deficiency and encouraging further expansion will be to hire between 150 to 200 engineers at its powertrain center in Bangalore. The engineers will be charged with, among other tasks, helping to launch an automatic version of the Chevrolet Cruz.

In addition to the 200 engineers, the company will add 800 new factory workers to their payroll. The new additions will help the company meet present demand for the seven vehicles sold by GM India in a timely fashion.

GM is not the only company seeing amped up demand for their car in India. Automakers across the board are seeing sales increases as the economic recovery continues and loans become more available.

GM India expect to see a 43 percent increase in local vehicle sales, reaching 120,000 vehicles for 2010.
