Six New Cars Break Into Consumer Reports Top 10

Consumer Reports annual Top Picks list has been unveiled and six new cars have made the cut. Nissan Altima, the Mazda5, Volkswagon GTI, Subaru Forester, Chevrolet Traverse and Silverado have joined the ranks with mainstay residents Infinity G37,  Hyundai Elantra SE, Lexus LS460L and the recently recalled Toyota Prius.

New addition, Nissan Altima knocked the incumbent top Family Sedan winner the Honda Accord off the list for the first time since 1998. Despite all the publicity surronding Toyota recalls, the company managed to get two cars on the list. The Toyota Prius, despite the recent reports on braking failures continues to hold the top spot for green cars. Elsewhere, the Lexus LS460L won for best overall vehicle.

Other winners included the Hyundai Elantra SE, price at $18,695 for the small sedan pick. The $27,504 Volkwagon GTI took the prize of best sporty car while the Subaru Foreste, prices between $20-$28K earned the title of best small SUV.  The $40,000 Chevrolet Traverse won CR’s best family SUV while the Infiniti G37, priced at $37,000 was voted best sports seda for the fourt year running.
