For the second game in a row Mark Teixeira hit a pair of home runs and the Atlanta Braves pounded the Cincinnati Reds 14-4 on Monday night to start their all important ten game road trip before squaring off with division leader New York Mets.
While Teixeira hit a pair of bombs it was Brian McCann’s first inning grand slam off Reds starter Phil Dumatrait in the first inning.
Staked to an early 5-0 lead Braves ace Tim Hudson worked through the Reds lineup with little trouble, becoming the first pitcher in the National League to reach the 15 win plateau.
Hudson pitched six complete innings while striking out four to improve to 15-5 on the year.
The Braves collected 17 hits in the game with Andruw Jones joining Teixeira and McCann in the home run column. Hudson was the only starter in the Braves lineup that didn’t collect a hit in the game.
