Tim Wakefield pitched seven strong innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five while walking one as the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6-0 at Tropicana Field.
Mike Lowell put the Red Sox in front 2-0 in the top of the first when his double off Rays starter Scott Kazmir plated Dustin Pedroia and Bobby Kielty. The Red Sox added another three runs in the top of the second inning to give Wakefield a 5-0 lead and the knuckleballer took care of business the rest of the way.
With the win Wakefield improved to 15-10 and joined fellow Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett and the L.A. Angels John Lackey in the 15-win club in the American League.
