The bad news was Hurricane Dean slammed into the coast of Mexico as a Category 5 hurricane, the goods news was it was in an area that was densely populated and the residents in the area had already evacuated.
While Dean’s path was a break for residents along the coast Mexico’s state-run oil company is holding its breath as the storm prepares to enter the Bay of Campeche where several oil rigs are situated.
No deaths have been reported since Hurricane Dean struck the Yucatan Peninsula but the storm certainly left its mark as trees were uprooted, electrical power was lost and several homes had their roofs ripped off. The 165 mph winds earned Hurricane Dean Category 5 status and the title of most intense Atlantic hurricane to hit land since Hurricane Andrew leveled south Florida in 1992.
To date, Hurricane Dean has claimed at least 12 lives since hitting the Lesser Antilles less than a week ago.
