Tippett Hall Mansion Goes on Sale for Record $76 Million

The 1937 colonial-style Tippett Hall Mansion in Delmar, CA is going on sale for a record $76 million. The gutted mansion stands on 5.7 acres of oceanfront property. It has nine bedrooms, 7 ½ bathrooms, leaded glass, chandeliers and inlaid floors and is 10,000 square feet but is not fit for occupancy.

Local venture capitalist Bill Stensrud and his wife, Carol, who are selling the estate for three times what they paid seven years ago, were unavailable for comment on the reason the mansion was gutted. With its current state, it would cost millions to re-do the house as well.

The Stensruds bought the house for $25 million from the Scripps Memorial Hospital, which had received it as a bequest from the late Ruth “Sally” Tippett, who served on the board of the hospital. They paid $5 million more than asking price of the home.

The current assessed valuation on the property is $27.3 million and the property taxes for last year, all paid, were $271,269, county officials said. The estate consists of three contiguous parcels, measuring 3.5 acres, 1.9 acres and 0.2 acres, enough for two large new homes.
