Honda Motor Co., Japan's second-largest carmaker, said sales in China rose 44% last month from a year earlier on demand for Civic compacts. Sales rose to 33,006 vehicles in July, the company said in an e-mailed statement Monday. In the first seven months of the year, the automaker sold 219,997 vehicles, a 32% increase.
Honda, Volkswagen AG and other automakers have boosted sales in China, the world's second-largest auto market, as economic growth and price cuts make cars affordable to more people. Automobile prices fell 2.8% in the first half of the year, almost a percentage point more than a year earlier, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.
Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., which makes Civic and CR-V sport-utility vehicles, boosted its vehicles sales 47% in the first seven months to 64,718. Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co. increased sales 11% to 155,279, according to Honda.
