Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen hit back-to-back homeruns to start the bottom of the fifth and Detroit starter Jair Jurrjens allowed just one hit over 6 2/3 innings as the Tiger beat the Cleveland Indians 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Fausto Carmona lost his bid for his 15th win of the year despite allowing just three hits over eight innings. As for Jurrjens, the right-hander carried a no-hitter into the sixth until Jhonny Peralta homered with one out for the Tribes lone hit.
Detroit’s bullpen was solid in relief as Joel Zumaya finished off the seventh before Fernando Rodney pitched a perfect eighth and Todd Jones closed the door in the ninth to earn his 32nd save of the year.
With the win the Tigers pulled to with ½ a game of the Indians for the American League Central lead.
