Jenny Crain, 39, had been posting personal best times as she prepared for the U.S. Olympic qualifying trial to determine who would represent the U.S. marathon squad in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
On Tuesday morning her Olympic hopes suffered a major setback after she was struck by a car while jogging in Milwaukee. Crain suffered a broken jaw and fractured neck in the accident and underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon.
Crain missed the cut for the U.S. Olympic team in 2004 but was seen as a strong contender to make the squad for 2008.
