Mike Flynt makes Sul Ross State Football Team at 59-years-old

Mike Flynt will be putting the pads back on and suiting up for Division III Sul Ross State this year as a 59-year-old senior.

For Flynt it will be a sort of homecoming. He had been a standout linebacker for the Alpine, Texas squad in 1970 and led the Lobos in tackles as a junior and was a team captain but he was kicked out of school for fighting before his senior season and has carried that with him all this time.

Speaking about his greatest regret Flynt said “I actually grieved for more years than I can remember the loss of that senior year. What really got me was I felt that was MY football team and I had let them down. ... I don't know if I ever got over it, but I finally learned to live with it.”

Now at 59-years-old Flynt has created an opportunity to write a happier ending to his college football career. Considered to be in excellent shape, Flynt has worked as a strength and conditioning coach at Oregon, Texas A&M and Nebraska and believe she’ll have little trouble holding up against kids nearly 40-years his junior.

Flynt will have a shot at seeing some action when Sul Ross State opens their season on Sept.1.
