MLB Scores: Chicago Cubs Score Two in the Tenth to Top Giants

The Chicago Cubs took advantage of a pair of Giants mistakes in the top of the tenth to score twice and win 4-2 on Wednesday night.

With the score tied 2-2 Cliff Floyd led off the tenth with a double. Felix Pie came in to run for Floyd and advanced to third after Giants catcher Bengie Molina couldn’t handle a Patrick Misch delivery. Mike Fontenot then walked to put runners on first and third with no outs.

Misch then got Jason Kendall to hit a grounder to Rich Aurilia but the second baseman booted the ball and Pie scored and once again the Cubs had first and third with no outs. Jacques Jones then struck out but Henry Blanco managed to lay down a sacrifice that scored Fontenot for the Cubs second run of the inning.

Ryan Dempster came on in the ninth to pitch a perfect inning and earn his 20th save of the year while Carlos Marmol improved to 3-1 on the year. Misch took the loss for the Giants despite not allowing an earned run.

With the win and the Milwaukee Brewers loss the Chicago Cubs took a one game lead in the National League Central.
