A submarine vessel carrying an estimated five metric tons of cocaine was intercepted by U.S. border patrol agents off the coast of Guatemala on Sunday. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials estimated the load carried by a four-man team was worth $350 million.
The drug submarine was spotted by an aircraft used for surveying the Pacific for illegal activity. The four men aboard the sub attempted to dump the cocaine before authorities could intercept them but at least 11 bales of cocaine with an estimated weight of 1,200 pounds were confiscated in the bust.
