Drew Brees and Reggie Bush Solid as Saints Roll Over Chiefs

Drew Brees connected on 17 of his 19 passing attempts for 182 yards and a touchdown while Reggie Bush collected 51 yards on six carries as the New Orleans Saints cruised past the Kansas City Chiefs 30-7 on Thursday night.

The Saints collected 479 yards of offense with 197 yards coming on the ground as rookie free agent Pierre Thomas made a case for a spot on the New Orleans’ roster with 90 yards on 11 carries. Thomas punched in two touchdowns as well, his last a 19-yard scamper late in the fourth quarter.

It was another anemic performance for the Chiefs offense which did a good job of making the Saints defense look as good as their offense. Kansas City collected just 153 yards of total offense as their running game never got started. That was in part due to the ineffective play of quarterback Brodie Croyle who finished the night 5-17 with an interception.

Kansas City moved the chains just 11 times in the game, converting 3-11 third down opportunities. Their lone score came with less than two minutes left in the game when Marcus O’Keith crossed the goal line on a two-yard carry.

Larry Johnson, who ended a 25-day holdout earlier this week, didn’t play but is expected to get some carries in the Chiefs game against the St. Louis Rams next week.
