Sudanese authorities are in the process of releasing 57 Darfur rebels belonging to the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) following a ceasefire agreement signed by President Omar al-Bashir and the rebel group.
According to Sudan’s justice minister the prisoners were being processed out in accordance with the deal reached on Tuesday in Doha.
JEM is considered one of the main rebel groups in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan and the ceasefire is being hailed as a major step in bringing peace to the area.
