USS Grunion Found After Being Lost In World War II

The USS Grunion was found this week after over 60 years of being lost. The submarine was lost during World War II and had never been seen or heard from again.

 

The sub originally launched from Groton, CT, in 1941, and set sail from Hawaii in June 1942 to run patrol between the Aleutian Islands and Japan. In July 1942, the submarine was reassigned to Kiska Island.

After the Grunion's final transmission on July 30, 1942, the ship was officially reported lost somewhere in the Pacific. There were 70 crew members on board. For more information the USS Grunion, go to ussgrunion.com
