Newmont Mining Corp. (NYSE:NEM), one of the world's largest gold producers will be reporting its fourth-quarter results on Thursday before the market opens. Gold prices rose steadily throughout 2009, hitting a peak of $1,227.50 an ounce in early December. Copper prices increased about 18 percent during the fourth quarter. Company executives also may provide more details on the Boddington open-pit mine, which started commercial production during the quarter about 80 miles southeast of Perth, Australia.
