MLB Scores: Greg Maddux Creates History in Padres Win Over Phillies

Greg Maddux became the first pitcher in major league baseball history to win 10 games in 20 straight seasons as the San Diego Padres cruised past the Philadelphia Phillies 14-3 on Friday night.

Maddux (10-9) pitched seven innings and gave up three runs as he broke the consecutive season mark set by Cy Young. The 343 game-winner now trails only Don Sutton’s mark of 21 seasons with 10 or more victories.

The Padres offense helped Maddux out in the fifth inning after putting six runs on the board to stake the four-time Cy Young Award-winner to an 8-3 lead. Milton Bradley hit a 3-run bomb and Adrian Gonzalez followed with a solo shot to make the score 6-3 and Josh Bard drove in the final two with a double to deep right.

San Diego tacked on two in the seventh and another four-spot in the ninth to finish the scoring as they improved their wildcard lead to three games and trail Arizona now by two games after the Diamondbacks dropped their game to the Chicago Cubs.
