The head of the much maligned Japanese car maker Toyota Motor Corp., Akio Toyoda, issued an apology for the recalls of Toyota and Lexus cars before Congress on Wednesday. Toyoda, attributed the glitch with involuntary acceleration to the company’s speedy growth saying, “frankly I fear the pace at which we have grown was too quick. I regret that this has resulted in the safety issues described in the recalls that we face today. “
The 53-year-old Toyoda takes full responsibility for the problems and will have to endure the financial burden that entails. "We never run away from our problems," he said. Millions of dollars will likely be spent offering assistance to the drivers of the recalled vehicles in the name of rental cars or other transportation replacements such as taxi cabs.
Toyoda, who is the third generation head of the company hoped to reassure owners that the company was committed to the repairs stating, "My name is on every car."
