Stocks are extending their early morning losses amid weak economic data from the housing sector. Today’s housing report showed existing home sales declined 0.2 percent while the inventory of unsold single-family homes rose 2.2% to 3.85 million. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 56.49 points, or 0.42 percent, to 13,322.38 in mid-morning trading. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index shed 7.66 points, or 0.52 percent, to 1,471.71. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 10.08 points, or 0.39 percent, to 2,566.61. Treasuries are slightly higher and the dollar is weaker against the yen and euro.
