All Eyes on Williams Sisters at US Open
The U.S. Open is starting today in Flushing Meadows, NY with all eyes on Venus and Serena Williams. The sisters have one each of the previous two Grand Slams thus far this year: Serena at the Australian Open and Venus at Wimbledon.
Only more player has more singles than Venus Williams with six: Serena Williams with eight.
On Day 1, top-seeded Justine Henin, No. 3 Jelena Jankovic and No. 5 Ana Ivanovic are in action during the day, as is three-time defending men's champion Roger Federer.
The Williams sisters both join defending champion Maria Sharapova, Henin, Jankovic and Ivanovic as favorites at the U.S. Open — even though Venus is seeded 12th and Serena eighth, even though Venus has played one tournament in the past seven weeks and Serena zero.
