NBA Rockets point guard Rafer Alston arrested for slitting man’s throat

The Rockets point guard, Rafer Alston, was arrested in New York Monday after he was accused of slashing a man’s throat while at a nightclub. The man, Wilbert Ashman, and a member of Alston’s group reportedly got into an argument in the nightclub Stereo. The argument quickly turned into a brawl, leaving 41-year-old Ashman injured.

Alston was arrested and Ashman picked him out of a police lineup as the man who slashed his throat. “I’m really upset about it,” says Ashman’s wife. “I can’t believe it. I was like, ‘Oh, my God, your throat.’”

Alston, who has been with the NBA for eight years and the Houston Rockets for 2, has not commented. This isn’t the first time the basketball star has been arrested in a confrontation. On August 5 he was arrested for reportedly shaking and spitting on the face of a parking attendant after his car was towed.

The Rockets are preparing to release a statement about the issue. Alston was released without bail on Tuesday.
