Sen. Larry Craig Insists “I Did Nothing Wrong,” Declares “I am not Gay”

Idaho senator Larry Craig has been under the microscope ever since it was revealed that he pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge involving disorderly conduct inside a men’s restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Craig was arrested after an undercover officer determined that the Senator was making sexual advances while he was in a stall next to him. In the police report the officer stated that Craig had tapped his toes and waved his hands beneath the divider of the two stalls.

The revelation that Craig pled guilty and paid a $575 fine only fueled the investigation of the Republican senator’s personal life launched by Idaho’s newspaper the Idaho Statesman.

While Craig entered a guilty plea he has since said that he made a mistake in his decision and was only trying to make the situation go away. In a public statement issued by the Idaho senator “I overreacted and made a poor decision, I chose to plead guilty to a lesser charge in hopes of making it go away. I did not seek any counsel… That was a mistake, and I deeply regret it…. I have now retained counsel and I am asking counsel to review this matter and advise me how to proceed.”

A three-term senator Craig insisted that he had done nothing wrong at the airport and went on to say “I am not gay, I never have been gay.”

Craig blamed stress from the Statesman’s investigation into his life and his family for his guilty plea, stating “I want to put my state of mind into context of June 11. For eight months leading up to June 11, my family and have been viciously harassed by the Idaho Statesman.”

The senator has yet to decide if he will seek re-election saying that he will make that decision sometime next week.
