If, as expected Al Gore ends up running for president again, one of his key themes will likely be global warming. He has traveled the country pushing this agenda and the effects this alleged global killing theory will have on life as it is known today. There was even a movie produce, “Day After Tomorrow” that simulated the effects of global warming and while it was scary to many people, neither the movie or Gore’s traveling show created much of a reaction among the little guys of the world.
When people hear about the high temperatures being posted around the United States, they are usually accompanied by historical high temperatures. This tempers the allegations that the world is heating up. While a one degree rise in ocean temperatures may have many long-lasting devastating effects on the globe, for most working people this holds little meaning. They are more concerned in getting through until their next paycheck.
When politicians crow about getting a reduction in the capital gains tax, most voters simply shrug it off knowing that 10 percent of nothing is still nothing. They don’t have any capital gains, so they have no savings. For many of the little guys in America, a big issue is being able to order a super sized fast food meal and still have enough to pay their electric bill.
Rising gasoline prices affect the little guy and they don’t care that the current energy policy has stifled new refinery construction or research into alternative power. They care that they use a large chunk of their paycheck for gasoline while oil companies continue to report obscene levels of profit.
