When the Republicans first starting their campaigning for their party’s nomination for president, Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, settled in like the buy next door. Withholding any venom towards his opponents and using his common-man roots to get the message to his supporters that he just an ordinary guy like most of the working people in America.
However, he recently took off the mittens, inferring that a life of privilege by one other candidate, name Mitt Romney, has removed himself from the people to the point that he cannot possibly understand what Americans go through trying to make end meet. Talking about himself, Huckabee said he didn’t just read a copy of NRA Magazine and decide to support the Second Amendment, inferring to other candidates who recently changed their views on gun control.
Taking swipes at his opponents is the first step he is taking to place himself in a position to rise to the front of the name game. Being recognized as a nice guy is an attribute for many people, but for a presidential hopeful, having his name become known is more important. Being in the public view means how the public views him and if he is to be viewed as a man who stands up for the beliefs of the electorate, he has to shed the Mr. Nice Guy image and become a fighter for the underdog.
Whether it puts him in a better position remains to be seen, but he had to step up and voice his opinion of other candidates before they pointed out his softer nature.
