Bill Richardson announced his run for candidacy January 21, 2007. He is the current Governor of New Mexico, where he has implemented many changes in the state. As governor he has made New Mexico a clean energy state. This is one of the issues that Mr. Richardson feels strongly about and has a plan for enacting more efficient use of our resources as president. Mr. Richardson has a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, cutting oil demand, and creating new energy sources. A big issue on today’s political front is the war in Iraq. Mr. Richardson strongly opposes the war on Iraq and has developed a plan that he feels will bring our troops home in six months.
Governor Richardson has a comprehensive plan for universal health care that allows for 100% coverage, with no new taxes and reallocating money to fund this new health care plan. The plan is very similar to what is currently used in other countries and has been proven to work well. As governor of New Mexico he has created 80,000 new jobs and improved the states job growth. When running for re-election as the governor of New Mexico he won with a landslide victory over his competition by nearly 70% of the vote, and of that 70% nearly 40% of them were republican votes. Mr. Richardson is not the popular Democratic Party but certainly deserves another look by many. In several states he is not far behind the current Democratic Party leaders, Obama and Clinton.
