When it comes to his feelings about illegal immigration, Massachusetts’ former governor Mitt Romney does not mince his words. He’s against it and he’s against any moves that allow cities to harbor illegal immigrants and plans to offer a financial incentive to the cities that currently offer refuge to them. Basically, cutting off certain federal funds to the cities that snub their noses at current federal laws on immigration.
Citing incidents when law-breakers are found to be in this country illegally turned back into the streets in some cities without notifying INS in accordance with federal law, he states these cities are helping illegal immigration to flourish instead of helping the country deal with the problem.
He claims he has nothing by adoration for the many immigrants who came into this country legally, but believes that if people want to come to the United States it must be done legally. He also has pushed the need to speak the native language to become part of the this country and has taken steps to insure that illegal immigrants cannot get a driver’s license in Massachusetts.
To his financial credit, Romney has a history of helping companies, as well as Massachusetts get out of debt. His work with the Olympic committee helped erase financial burden and turn it into a group that works for the young athletes. He is planning to use his business acumen in the White House to help balance the national debt, secure the country’s borders and can’t let his lack of foreign policy matter stand in the way.
