Starr Tincup Team in Training Warming Up For Fall Season

Integrated marketing firm’s team continues to raise funds for blood cancer research, education and patient services

Four members of the Starr Tincup team, Dwamian McLeish, Michele Roth, Jen Huddleston and Susan Muegge, will compete in the Team in Training program this fall and two previous TNT competitors,

Bret Starr and Dan McCarron, will mentor the athletes. Bret and Dan participated in the Lavaman triathlon last year in Kona, Hawaii and will contribute this season by mentoring the team and helping other team members achieve their goals. Both say that they find it “rewarding to encourage our co-workers as they train and compete this fall.”

Dwamian, Michele, Jen and Susan will compete in various events this season.  Dwamian and Michele have been training to compete in the Dave Scott TexasMan Triathlon in Denton, Texas, Sept.16. They are scheduled to compete in the Olympic event, consisting of a 1500-yard swim, 23-mile bike ride and 6-mile run. They are excited and nervous (in fact, Dwamian says he is “terrified”) about the upcoming event.

Jen and Susan plan to run 13.1 miles in Dallas, Texas, Nov. 4, and are training by running approximately 3 or 4 times a week. The athletes of course face a time crunch working all of this training activity into their schedules. According to Jen, it can be quite a challenge “waking up and actually getting on the road at 4:15 on Saturday mornings!”  Susan has difficulty finding time to train with a 15-month old at home. “The longer runs are hard because I can’t take my daughter. Just finding the time has been my greatest challenge.” Jen’s accomplishment for the month is running 8 miles in under 2 hours and Susan’s is running 3.2 miles in 24 minutes.

The athletes compete in events as part of the TNT program to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fight leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. The team’s goal is not only to compete, but ultimately to raise funds to fight blood cancers. The Starr Tincup team has raised $12,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society so far this season, in addition to $50,000 raised during the winter season.
