Stocks opened sharply higher as bargain hunters overlook lingering credit worries and snapped up shares after yesterday’s steep decline. The market appears to be a bit oversold. Investors are also beginning to anticipate that the Fed will cut interest rates again at its next meeting.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 81.61 points, or 0.63 percent, at 13,123.46. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 8.48 points, or 0.59 percent, at 1,440.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 17.93 points, or 0.72 percent, at 2,518.57.

Oil prices, gold futures, and Treasuries are all slightly higher.
