Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ hit originally written for Britney Spears

Rihanna broke records with the single when it stayed at number 1 for 10 consecutive weeks.

American movie producer Tricky Stewart reportedly said that he held the song for Spears but she never followed up on it.

“I was working with Tricky in his studio the day he finished ‘Umbrella.’ As soon as I heard it I said, ‘That is a smash, I have to have it,’ but he told me it was on hold for Britney,” said singer/songwriter Taio Cruz. “He waited but Britney’s people never called him back.”

The ‘Toxic’ singer is making a musical comeback with her new single ‘Gimme More’ which is set to be released to radio stations next week.
