Starr Tincup Endorses Bernie Scheffler for Fort Worth City Council District 9

South Fort Worth Marketing Firm Supports Bernie Scheffler as Best Advocate for Area Small Business

FORT WORTH – August 30, 2007 – Starr Tincup, a boutique marketing firm on Magnolia Avenue in South Fort Worth, today announced their endorsement of Bernie Scheffler for Fort Worth City Council District 9.  The company’s endorsement follows several meetings with Mr. Scheffler to discuss issues impacting District 9 residents and business owners.

“After several long discussions with Bernie, we feel he best represents our interests as small business owners in Fort Worth,” says Bret Starr, Principal and Co-Founder of Starr Tincup.  “The nature of our business requires that we recruit the best and the brightest from all over the country.  We’ve been very successful at luring top-notch marketing consultants to Starr Tincup due in large part to the charm and convenience of our neighborhood in South Fort Worth.  But there are several threats facing our community that could impact quality of life for our employees.”

Mr. Starr cited urban gas drilling, transportation and historic preservation as major areas of concern for his firm.  “I don’t think most people are aware that urban gas drilling brings with it a dramatic increase in large-truck traffic as gas companies labor to haul in and out the millions of gallons of water it takes to drill a well.  That traffic is noisy, damaging and disruptive to the commute our employees have to make every day.  Urban gas drilling will also destroy the charm of our neighborhood as quaint urban settings are replaced with industrial construction sites.  Our employees love the fact they can walk and bike up and down Magnolia Avenue to the many quality restaurants and shops in our neighborhood.  Preserving that experience, including the historic significance of the incredible buildings in South Fort Worth, is very important to our business.”

Mr. Starr pointed to Mr. Scheffler’s small business experience as well as his integrity and character as considerations in his company’s endorsement.  “Bernie understands our needs as small business owners in this community – he owns a successful bike shop right down the street.  Furthermore, I can say with great confidence that Bernie is running for city council because he genuinely wants to serve his neighborhood and his city.  He loves Fort Worth more than any person I’ve met since I moved here from Boston two years ago.  I think there is a tendency for people to pursue positions like these for selfish reasons like career advancement and vanity.  That’s not Bernie.  And that’s why we know he is the best person to represent our district.”

"I'm honored to be endorsed by a thriving local business like Starr Tincup. The success of their firm is proof that the creative class is alive and well in Distict 9, and I'm proud to say that they share my vision for the future of Fort Worth," Scheffler said.
