John Edwards With Slumping Poll Numbers Denies Direct Attack On Hillary Clinton

Amidst rumors that the campaign of Senator John Edwards is gearing for a head-on collision with the camp of Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Edwards told CNN reporters that his comments regarding “establishment elites” and the so-called “Washington insiders” were directly aimed at Senator Clinton. According to Senator Edwards, the comments were meant to be general statements and that he is not singling out Senator Clinton. He clarified that the things that he said recently were not directed at any of the other candidates and that he just wanted to make it known to the public that he would be an ethical steward of the White House if ever he is elected as president.

USAElectionPolls.com posts the poll numbers for all of the Democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton has seen her poll numbers jump and such actions by John Edwards is believed by the pundits as a way to eat into her lead and gain some traction for himself.

Much as Senator Edwards would like to have the public believe that he is not aiming his comments at Senator Clinton, many political analysts believe otherwise. According to Stuart Rothenberg, the editor and publisher of the nonpartisan Rothenberg Political Report, the fact that Senator Edwards mentioned that the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House is not for sale or rent made it very apparent whom he was referring to. Note that during the time of then President Bill Clinton, the issue about the president improperly using the Lincoln Bedroom to accommodate his top campaign donors plagued the Clintons. Rothenberg believe that there could be other person who can be linked to that comment except Senator Hillary Clinton. As it is, the comments of Senator Edwards are but a thinly veiled direct attack on Senator Clinton who is currently the frontrunner of the Democratic presidential nomination.
