In a fiery speech last Thursday, Senator John Edwards, a Democratic candidate for president said that “The American people deserve to know that their presidency is not for sale, the Lincoln Bedroom is not for rent, and lobbyist money can no longer influence policy in the House or the Senate."
Although Senator Edwards did not mention the name of Senator Hillary Clinton during his speech and he later on denied that his comments were directly against Senator Clinton, many political observe and analysts believe that his comments were directed at his chief political rival. Many believe that Senator Edwards want to establish a distinction between him and Senator Clinton whose husband, former-President Bill Clinton was rumored to use the White House premises to entertain his top campaign contributors. Note that during the time of President Bill Clinton, many people complained that some of the policies of the nation were influenced by people who were close to the President.
John Edwards has seen his poll numbers slip on USAElectionPolls.com and it is believed that he has since been trying to appeal to the grassroots movements with such statements.
Many believe that Senator Edwards, who is now trailing way behind Senator Clinton and Senator Barack Obama in the presidential nomination, is just looking for a way to get back into the race by creating a stir on the issue of possible corruption at the White House. Political analysts believe that since the issue of change in the government has been one of the most popular topics for this coming election, Senator Edwards is now positioning himself as a person who could bring in change. Many believe that his comments were meant to create a distinction between him, Senator Clinton and Senator Obama.
