Barack Obama Vowed To Do Away With Restrictions On Cuban-Americans

After being lambasted for being naïve on his comment that he wants to meet with leaders of nations hostile to the United States during a debate aired in youtube.com early this month, Senator Barack Obama again stirred many strong reactions when he wrote an essay for the Miami Herald about the issues surrounding Cuba. According to the essay, Senator Obama wants to grant Cuban-Americans "unrestricted rights to visit family and send remittances to the island."

Barack Obama has been known to have alternative solutions to International affairs and has been charged as being inexperienced by Hillary Clinton in one of the past debates. Poll numbers posted on USAElectionPolls.com does not seem to suggest that this had any impact.

At present, Cuban-Americans can only send up to $300 per quarter to their family members and can only visit their families in Cuba to up to 14 days once every three years. According to Senator Obama, the restrictions imposed upon Cuban-Americans are unjustifiable and too narrow. He believes that people should be given the unrestricted rights to travel and he seeks to do away with the restrictions imposed on Cuban-Americans when he becomes president. He believes that everyone should have the right to help their families at home and to visit them anytime they want to.

Although the well meaning declarations of Senator Obama may be welcome to many Cuban-Americans, the Latino community is Miami is not really happy to hear about Cuba issues once again. According to many residents of this area, they want to hear other things other than the issue of Cuba. Note that the issue about Cuba has been around for the last 5 decades that a lot of people, especially the Latino communities in Miami are simply too feed up of the whole thing and wants to move on to other more important issues.
