Mitt Romney Lambasted Barack Obama Over Cuba Issue

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney severely criticized the declaration of Senator Barack Obama that he will grant Cuban-Americans "unrestricted rights to visit family and send remittances to the island" once he become president. According to Romney, the statement of Obama which was published in the Miami Herald proves that Obama “does not have the strength to confront America's enemies or defend our values."

USAElectionPolls.com points out that Mitt Romney has been attacking Barack Obama across the campaign trail. "Attacking candidates in the other political party helps candidates trying to move up because it keeps them from being labeled as negative" says USAElectionPolls.com.

Romney, the forerunner of the Republican camp is very critical when it comes to Obama’s ideas on foreign policies. He believes that making "unilateral concessions to a dictatorial regime are counterproductive". He believes that the position of Obama on matters involving foreign policies is rather naïve. The opinion of Romney is echoed by many other presidential candidates both from the Republican and the Democratic parties. Earlier this month, Senator Hillary Clinton called Obama “naïve” when Obama declared that he will meet with the leaders of hostile nations during his first one hundred days as president. Like Romney, Clinton is of the opinion that the unqualified declarations of Obama regarding the foreign policies of the country toward Cuba should be tempered. According to Clinton, there should be no changes with the U.S. policy with regards to Cuba until such time when Fidel Castro is no longer in control of the country and that the new government that replaces Castro will demonstrate positive intentions to come to terms with the United States.

Following the statements made by Obama regarding foreign policies, many people are of the opinion that when it comes to foreign policies, presidential candidates should not just make sweeping remarks and unqualified statements.
