As the presidential candidates gear for a more fierce battle into the campaign trail, candidates from both the Democratic and the Republican parties adapt varied strategies to win the votes of the people. As the Obama campaign heads to Florida, Senator Barack Obama wowed the Cuban-Americans in the area by saying that he will go for unrestricted remittances and visits of Cuban-Americans to their families in Cuba.
Many political analysts believe that the move of Senator Obama was a way to appease the Cuban-Americans in the area after he declared early this month that he is willing to meet with the leaders of hostile nations during the early part of his presidency. Note that the declaration of Obama generated negative reactions from many people especially those people from Cuban-American communities who have been subjected to cruelties under the regime of Cuban President Fidel Castro. According to the Florida poll numbers posted on USAElectionPolls.com, Hillary Clinton has twice the support as Obama.
According to Democratic strategist Maria Cardona, the move of Senator Obama to revive the issues on Cuba is very strategic. Although the issues of Cuba are not really the leading issue that confronts the people of Florida nowadays, a lot of people are still very much passionate about these things. Starting a discussion on Cuba can spark a lot of debates and could get Senator Obama the attention that he needs. However, Cardona said that the move of Obama could backfire since there are only very few Cuban-American voters in Florida and the majority of the voters in this Latino area do not really want to hear more about Cuba.
