Senator John McCain, a Republican presidential aspirant expressed his dismay over the fact that he only landed third in the first quarter fundraising campaigns. Senator McCain is considered as one of the top Republican candidates hoped to generate better figures than the $12.5 million that he gathered. According to sources that are close to the Senator, McCain worked hard to win over the fundraising Pioneers and Rangers who contributed to the Bush campaign in 2000 and 2004. Apparently, the efforts of McCain did not really pay that much considering the fact that two other candidates got higher figures than he did.
Beyond struggles in fundraising, John McCain is struggling in the polls. By looking at the polls on USAElectionPolls.com, McCain went from front runner early this year to fourth or fifth place.
Commenting on why he ended with less money than expected, the fundraisers of McCain said that the earlier classes between McCain and President Bush may have contributed in the low turn-out of financial support for McCain. They also pointed out that traditional Republican donors have been unhappy with McCain’s financial reform agenda in the Senate. Some also believe that although there are many Republicans who believe in McCain, they are not really comfortable about his age. Although McCain is still healthy and strong at age 70, many people believe that his younger opponents may be better at serving as president of the country.
The low turn-out on the fundraising of McCain seem to be an omen of what is come. McCain suffered yet another blow when he landed tenth place in the Iowa straw poll this month. If we are to base our assumptions on the fate of McCain in the coming election on his fundraising and straw poll turn-out, we could be looking at a very slim possibility of McCain ever coming close to the top of the list of candidates during the election.
