Barack Obama Strategy In Florida: Win Cuban-American Votes

Many analysts believe that the declaration of Senator Barack Obama that he will grant unrestricted remittances and visits of Cuban-American to Cuba will boost his chances of getting majority votes in Florida. According to many analysts, Florida had always been the battleground when it comes to the presidential election. Note that former-president Ronald Reagan’s heavy emphasis on the Cuban-American votes in the 1980s election made him win the elections. Even former-President Bill Clinton himself wowed the Cuban-American votes during his term and was rewarded with a heavy turn-out of votes that helped him win the presidential election.

According to the Florida poll numbers posted on USAElectionPolls.com, Hillary Clinton has twice the support as Obama. This is a strategic move by Obama to make this early primary competitive.

Although Obama’s declaration on Cuba may win him votes in Florida, many political observers believe that such statements may cause him to loss votes in other areas of the country. According to observers, the way Senator Obama handles foreign policy is unorthodox that many people would not trust him when it comes to handling sensitive issues. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, a Republican presidential candidate, did not really mince words when he criticized Senator Obama on the issue of Cuba. According to Romney, Senator Obama is showing his weak side. Romney believes that Senator Obama cannot even defend the American values and confront the enemies of the nation.

The sentiment of Romney is echoed by majority of the members of the Democratic Party. In a recent poll conducted by CNN, a large majority of the members of the Democratic Party believes Senator Hillary Clinton has more experience and political will to handle the countries foreign policies.
