Madeline McCann’s mother named official suspect in disappearance

Kate McCann, the mother of missing child Madeline McCann, has officially been named a suspect by Portuguese police in the disappearance of her daughter. Kate was questioned by police for 11 hours on Thursday and their family spokesperson Justine McGuinness said “there is fear” that Kate might be arrested.

Police named the 39-year-old a suspect after forensic test found traces of Madeline’s blood in a car the McCann’s rented 25 days after her disappearance. “They believe they have evidence to show that in some way she’s involved in the death of her daughter, which of course is completely ludicrous,” McGuinness said.

Madeline was abducted from the family’s villa in Praia da Luz when her parents left her and her two younger siblings sleeping as they dined at a nearby restaurant. Police announced an international search for the now four year old girl.

“She was absolutely horrified,” McGuinness says of Kate. “Kate is a lovely mother to her children. She’d never hurt them. Anyone who knows Kate would say to make an allegation of this kind about her is just completely ludicrous.”

Gerry McCann, Madeline's father, might also be named a suspect.
