Tiger Wood’s public apology may have satisfied Nike, but the same cannot be said of sports drink producer, Gatorade, sold by Pepsi Co., which dropped Woods as a spokesperson Friday.
A representative from Gatorade announced they had ended their endorsement deal with the golfer saying, "we no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship." The company will; however, continue to support the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Gatorade’s relationship with Tiger Wood’s has been winding down since November when news of his numerous infidelities first broke. Even before the news of his extra marital affairs became public, the company discontinued producing its Tiger Woods-brand drink.
Gatorade is late to cancel contracts with Woods; Accenture and AT&T Inc both dropped Woods in November when the golfer’s wholesome reputation first revealed itself as a façade. While making no final public declarations, Tag Huer and Proctor & Gamble all minimized Tiger’s presence in their marketing campaigns.
Nike and Electronic Arts continue their support of Woods.
