Madeleine McCann parents refuse to answer ‘more than 40 questions,’ leave Portugal

Only two days after they where named suspects in their daughter’s disappearance, Gerry and Kate McCann left Portugal to return to the UK. The couple was officially named suspects in the disappearance and possible murder of 4-year-old Madeleine McCann (alternate spelling Madeline) after traces if her blood was found in the families rented car 25 days after she went missing.

Madeleine was believed to have been abducted on May 3 from a rented apartment in Praia da Luz. Kate and Gerry left Madeleine and her twin siblings asleep in the apartment while they had dinner down the street. They claim their daughter was abducted and is still alive.

Police say they have to evidence that seems to prove Kate and Gerry had something to do with their daughter’s death. New arguments arise about the blood found in the car with some saying it is too contaminated to reveal any definite answers. Police also say sniffer dogs found a “death smell” on some of Kate McCann’s things.

Police believe that Kate accidentally killed Madeleine after giving her a sedative overdose. They believe Gerry helped Kate hide the body and cover up the crime.

When questioned about the crime, reports say Gerry and Kate refused to answer “more than 40 questions.” The couple has not been charged, but could be subject to movement restrictions because of their suspect status. They could be called back to Portugal for more questioning at anytime; some speculate by the end of this week.

“Despite there being so much that they wish to say, they are unable to do so, except to say this: they played no part in the disappearance of their beloved daughter,” said the McCann’s spokeswoman.  She added that they are returning home to “consider their response” to the allegations and “pick up the pieces of their life.”

Kate and Gerry McCann, along with their two-year-old twins, caught an early morning flight back to the UK. The couple is “angry and horrified” over the allegations and fear they may be the victims of a “shocking injustice.”
