Jane Wyman, actress and first wife of Ronald Reagan, dies at 93

Actress and first wife of Ronald Reagan, Jane Wyman, died Monday morning at the age of 93. The academy award winning actress died at her home in Palm Springs after several years of failing health.

Wyman won many awards for her acting talent and was nominated numerous times. Wyman was nominated for an Oscar in 1946 for her role in “The Yearling” and won an Oscar for her performance as a deaf rape victim in “Johnny Belinda.” She also played a nine year role as Angela Channing on “Falcon Crest.”

Wyman was also known for her marriage to actor and later president Ronald Reagan. They were married in 1940 and were thought to be one of Hollywood’s perfect matches. Wyman and Reagan were divorced in 1948. They had a daughter, Maureen Reagan, and an adopted son, Michael Reagan.

After Reagan became governor of California and later president, Wyman never spoke of him again. She broke her silence when he died in 2004 only saying, “America has lost a great president and a great, kind, gentle man.”
