Encouraged by the turn-out of supporter encouraging him to run for president at the Iowa State Fair, Fred Thompson is now getting into the presidential race. Although a lot of people say that it is now a bit late for him to get into the race, the former Senator from Tennessee does not appear to be concerned about this fact. In an article published in the Newsweek, he was quoted saying "A lot of people say its late and all that, but I look at my history books and see where people announced in September, October, and November." Apparently, Thompson is not affected with all the well-meaning advice that he gets not to declare his candidacy late into the race.
The latest national poll posted on USAElectionPolls.com shows Fred Thompson in the 20% range, double digit numbers behind Rudy Giuliani -- a margin roughly the same as before he got into the race.
Although Thompson may not be concerned about declaring his candidacy late into the game, a lot of political observers think that the idea is not really feasible. With just about four months to go before voting begins, he may not be able to muster enough power for his campaign especially when he does not have strong political machinery at his disposal. According to political observers, he may not be able to place his political support team in time. Note that setting up political machinery is labor-intensive, requires much planning, coordination and funds. Since other candidates like former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani have already established their own political machineries a long time ago, Thompson’s chances of beating these two candidates is very slim.
