September 11 Tribute Held by Wall Street

On this 9/11, Wall Street will mark the sixth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon Tuesday in several ways.

The New York Stock Exchange will hold a moment of silence immediately before the opening bell. Representatives from "Tuesday's Children," a nonprofit organization that provides mentoring, advocacy and other programs for the families of those killed during the September 11 attacks, will be on hand at the exchange to ring the opening bell.

Nasdaq will air a live video feed of the official New York City memorial service, which this year is taking place in a park across the street from Ground Zero, as opposed to the actual Ground Zero memorial, where they have held it in previous years.

Nasdaq will also have a moment of silence at 10:29 a.m., the time the second of the twin towers fell. The electronic exchange asks traders to refrain from placing trades during the commemoration.

Trading was suspended from the Tuesday morning of the attacks to the following Monday, Sept. 17, 2001.
