Jessica Simpson to drop pop music, goes country

Simpson’s father, Joe Simpson, reveals his daughter is “talking about doing a country record and going back to her roots, being from Texas.”

“Everything in our business is about beats and I think she really wants to sing, and country music really believes in that,” Joe said. “She’s a singer from top to bottom. And everything in the music business, especially pop music, has moved away from singers. And I think country is the only pure, storytelling kind of genre left.”

Simpson recently finished filming on her new movie “Major Movie Star.” She recorded her last album in 2006 titled “Public Affair.” When asked if he thought his daughter would be accepted as a country music singer, Joe replied, “She’s from Texas. How could she not?”
