Osama bin Laden is Back

Osama bin Laden has released two videos over the past couple of days. Resurfacing after three years, his presence has people worldwide asking questions pertaining to his health and his location.

Tuesday, one of bin Laden’s videos focused on remembering one of the September 11 suicide terrorist, in addition to calling for all young Muslims to follow his example in sacrificing themselves for present and future attacks.

A video believed to be from Saturday showed bin Laden’s urgency to get Americans to convert to Islam and rallying against capitalism, globalization and democracy, characterizing them as futile philosophies.

Coincidentally these two videos were released on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States. Also at a time when the U.S. presidential campaign and its debate on how America should be fighting terrorism is in progress.

Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence agencies are closely watching the 50 year-old al-Qaeda leader on video for clues to find his location and whereabouts.

U.S. officials now say that the images in Saturday's video were most recent. bin Laden’s brief mention of the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, dates to June when he took office and perhaps was done with his term as early as August.

Because bin Laden's image moves for only a few minutes in the first tape and not at all in the second, questions are being raised about his health.

Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism expert at the Swedish National Defense College, stated that "He's very much up on current events, but it is more than that. bin Laden has learned to skillfully package and tap into issues that have political currency and a wide resonance outside his normal constituency.”

But officials more so think that just because he issued two tapes in four days, he is simply saying “I’m back.”
