Sony Upgrades PSP Console Design

Sony has created a new look for the PlayStation Portable player. The new video game console is slimmer, lighter and comes with a video-out port for watching content on TVs, making it more convenient for its players.

The new PSP will be sold at $170 (USD) and in stores late September. Overseas sales and pricing has not yet been set.

Since the initial launch of the PSP in 2004, Sony has shipped more than 25 million gaming consoles. But according to its competitor, the Nintendo DS, has sold well over 40 million units worldwide.

However, at a press conference in California, Sony said they were working with Epic Games in order to optimize select graphic engines for the use of the PlayStation 3.

Sony’s Unreal Tournament 3, which uses the graphic engine, will be available on PS3 this fall.

There are approximately seven developers working on 20 more games that will use the optimized engine in preparation of the holiday season.
