Kanye West's Graduation is ahead of 50 Cent's Curtis after the first day sales. Both albums came out on September 11 after much media attention about the two hip-hop titans battle for best opening sales.
West's album sold 437,000 copies in its first day, while 50's album sold 310,000. Country singer Kenny Chesney, whose latest album Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates was also released on 9/11, sold 107,000 yesterday.
West is expected to top next week's Neilsen Soundscan top 200. Many expect Graduation to surpass 750,000 in its first week. His second album Late Registration was the last album to start above that mark. It opened at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with opening sales of 860,000 copies and led the chart for two weeks.
So far, the largest sales week this year belongs to Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight" with 623,000 copies sold.
