Mike Huckabee Wants To Fight Obesity

As more and more candidates are coming up with their own version of the reforming the health system of the country, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee bared his program for fighting obesity in the country. According to Huckabee who is a self proclaimed “recovering foodaholic” obesity is fast becoming an epidemic is the country. The increase in the number of cases of obesity is becoming quite alarming that he believe it is time to face the problem squarely as a nation.

The Democrats are preaching universal health care programs while the Republicans are preaching higher quality low cost health insurance programs. Mike Huckabee stands apart by preaching prevention. According to the latest polls on USAElectionPolls.com, Mike Huckabee has been gaining traction nationally.

According to Huckabee, the fight against obesity should be given equal attention as the fight for terrorism. He cited that the leaders of the country have been continuously stressing the need to fight terrorism but they never really consider the idea that if the people in the country are too sick, nobody will have the capacity to fight terrorism or even show up at work. He cited the situation of the growing number of obese kids in the country today and said that if the kids are too unhealthy, they will most likely fail to pass the military physical thus nobody will be there to fight for the country.

Although there are many people who are skeptical of the comments of Huckabee regarding obesity in the military, Dr. William Rowley who worked for over 30 years as a vascular surgeon, said that about 61% of those people who are on active military duty are actually overweight. The figures given by Dr. William Rowley are sobering considering that the military has always been known to be strict when it comes to physical fitness. If the military is now filled with people who are overweight, then the situation is already very alarming indeed.
