After much speculation and anticipation, Russian President Vladimir Putin finally named a replacement for the Prime Minister position, previously filled by Mikhail Fradkov. Putin selected with Viktor Zubkov.
Putin having sent out a clear signal to Russian voters that he will remain in full control until he steps down from Kremlin office in March.
The reshuffle is going to leave the two front-runners, Sergei Ivanov and Dmitry Medvedev, both First Deputy Prime Ministers, in place while opening the way for other contenders, including Fradkov himself, to enter the race, even though no one expects anyone except Putin’s preferred protégé to win in March.
