Simpson’s story conflicted with the victims. He says there where no weapons involved and he did not steal anything; he and his crew were conducting a sting operation to get his belongings back.
“We have reported from the victim that there were weapons involved,” said police captain James Dillon.
Simpson claims auction house owner Tom Riccio warned him collectors were selling some of his things and did not anyone to know. Simpson added he arranged to meet Riccio because the auction house owner set up a meeting with the collectors, who were under the impression Riccio had a potential buyer.
“We walked into the room. I’m the last one to go in and when they see me, it’s all ‘Oh God,’” Simpson said. “Everybody knows this is stolen stuff. Not only wasn’t there a break-in, but Riccio came to the lobby and escorted us up to the room. In any event, its stolen stuff that’s mine. Nobody was roughed up.”
Simpson admitted they took the collectibles, but does not know where they are at. No one has been charged and the case is under investigation.
